b'Giving Back by Sharing Knowledge Rheane Brandons story as told to Sharmila Sukhan, Divisional Learning Team Teacher Rheane (she/her) is a First Nations Woman and mother of four. Rheane is originally from Treaty 4 Territory, Waywayseecappo First Nation, 32 kilometres east of Russell, Manitoba.Rheane is a parent and has been a part of the LRSD family since 2019 when her oldest child entered kindergarten at St. George School. Rheane has supported the LRSD community by sharing her knowledge, expertise, and time in many ways, such as beading classes with youth ages 8-10, baking bannock for students, cooking classes for parents, and participating in ribbon dress and vest making at the Ren Deleurme Centre (RDC). She also assisted in the creation of a draft of Policy GBA: Employment Equity.Rheane appreciates that LRSD includes opportunities for all learners, staff, and community members to connect through programs and events such as the Graduation Powwow. Rheane participates in full moon ceremonies, four directions teachings, the Footsteps program, and additional programming at the RDC. She attributes her sense of belonging and inclusion to LRSD to Melissa Brown, Community Support Supervisor. Melissa provided information and created connections for Rheane to receive her CPR and Food Handlers Certificate. As next steps in LRSDs journey in DEI, Rheane suggests a yearly cultural week around hunting season, which would include ceremonies, foods, hide stretching, berry crushing and meat drying, just as she would have experienced back home. She would also love to host sewing, beading and drum-making clubs for parents and community members in the evenings.21'
